How long have you been riding, and what got your started? 31 years – A mustang with a Banana seat and a hockey card in the spokes.

What do you enjoy most about mountain biking? The adventure in a perfect setting.

Are you involved in racing? If so, what is it that you like about the competition? A little. I coach a lot of kids that race and have entered a few myself. It is fun to ride different courses and see how you compare to the rest of the old people out there.

What is your favorite race and why? The Iditabike – It is in the middle of winter – long, cold and one day I want to race in it.

Where is your favorite area to ride? What makes it so special? Jasper; I think it is the best kept secret in North America. Great trails, great bike shop, beautiful scenery and every imaginable condition.

Describe your most memorable mountain biking experience? At my age memories become a mosaic of great things. It all is one great ride punctuated by rest periods that just seem to get longer. Although I sure enjoyed the ride Jeany mentions.

How has mountain biking helped you with other aspects of your life? It makes me better… way better.

What are your future goals in regards to mountain biking? Increase the presence of cycling in schools and increase the opportunity for riding in general in our community. I want to race masters level for a year or so and see how I do.

How do you give back to the sport? Are you involved in trail construction? Organize a club complete with group rides. Coach students who wish to race. Advocate for trails and do some trail work each year. Work within the high school system to advocate for riding and racing programmes.

Other interests or hobbies? Almost all outdoor pursuits and more than any want to read about here. Life
